How to Dispose of and Recycle Vapes
When vapes reach the end of their useful life, it's essential to know how to properly dispose of them to avoid potential risks and comply with current regulations.
In this article, we will delve into where and how to dispose of vapes conveniently and safely, considering the different types that exist.
How to Recycle Refillable Vapes
Refillable vapes have various components, such as the battery, atomizer, capsule and charger. Each of these serves a specific function in the vaping process.
Properly managing the waste from rechargeable vapes is essential to avoid negative impacts on the environment. Below, we explain how and where to dispose of each component of refillable vapes:
Battery
The battery, which supplies power to the device, is typically lithium-ion and has a lifespan of one to two years. When depleted, it should be taken to a recycling center.
Atomizer
The atomizer, responsible for heating the liquid to produce vapor, should be disposed of in the yellow container once it has reached the end of its useful life.
Capsule
Disposable and refillable capsules, once empty, should be deposited in the yellow container.
Liquid
The vape liquid should be fully consumed before recycling its container. The containers are usually made of plastic and glass and should be recycled in their corresponding container, either yellow (plastic) or green (glass).
Charger
The charger, a USB cable with an adapter for charging the device, should be kept in good condition and used only when necessary. When it is no longer functional, it should be taken to a recycling center.
How to Recycle Disposable Vapes
On the other hand, disposable vapes are single-use devices. Unlike rechargeable ones, they have preloaded battery and liquid and have a usage limit.
These electronic cigarettes operate with lithium-ion batteries, so they should be deposited in battery containers, specifically in spaces reserved for lithium batteries.
It's essential to understand that there are many
types of vapes, each with distinctive characteristics, which implies that the recycling process may vary depending on the model.
Where are heated tobacco units disposed of?
In addition to vapes, there are other
alternatives to traditional cigarettes, such as IQOS, which use heated tobacco units.
These units contain tobacco remnants, so it is advised to deposit them in specific containers provided in public spaces, such as parks, beaches, and streets, or to use portable devices designed for their collection.
